- Digital X-Ray – Durga Advanced Diagnostics Center
Fast and accurate Digital X-Ray with instant high-resolution imaging.
Overview
What is X-Ray?
X-ray is one of the most commonly used diagnostic imaging techniques that uses a small amount of high energy ionizing radiation to capture images of the structures of the body. The final image (radiograph) is a “shadow” created by how different tissues absorb the ionizing radiation.
Dense structures like bones or metal absorb most of the rays and are radio-opaque. Low-density structures like air-filled lungs allow almost all rays to pass through and are radio-lucent. Other soft tissues such as muscles, fat, and organs absorb variable amounts, thus appearing in varying shades of gray.
This investigation is especially effective for visualizing bones, chest structures, and certain soft tissues, helping doctors quickly diagnose a wide range of conditions.
X-ray imaging is known for its speed, accessibility, and accuracy, making it a fundamental tool in modern diagnostics, still remaining extremely crucial in chest imaging, assessment of fractures, bone tumors, renal calculi, assessment of bowel obstruction / perforation.
Advantages of X-Ray
- Quick & Efficient:Results in seconds
- Non-Invasive:No surgery or discomfort
- Widely Available:Accessible and cost-effective
- Essential for Initial Diagnosis:First step in many medical evaluations
- Low Radiation Exposure:Minimal and controlled dose
- Real time capabilities, esp in fluoroscopy.
- However, since there is involvement of ionizing radiation, it has to be cautiously and judiciously used esp in children.
Use Cases
Common Uses of X-Ray
X-rays are widely used across multiple areas of diagnosis:
Bones & Joints
- Fractures and dislocations
- Arthritis and joint abnormalities
- Bone tumors
- Bone / joint infections
Chest Imaging
- Lung infections (pneumonia, tuberculosis)
- Chest conditions and abnormalities
- Pre-operative work up
Dental X-Rays
- Tooth decay
- Jaw structure evaluation
General Screening
- Detecting metallic foreign objects
- Basic health assessments
X-Ray Procedure
- You must inform your doctor or technologist if you are or might be pregnant, as radiation can be harmful to a developing fetus. Last menstrual period date may be asked to confirm the same.
- Patient preparation:For most of the x rays, no previous preparation is needed. Just prior to the scan, he/she may be asked to remove jewelry, change clothing, remove eyeglasses, or any metal objects, as these can block X-rays and interfere with the image. Depending on the area being scanned, you might need to change into a hospital gown.
- The patient is positioned depending on the body part being examined. More than one view may be needed depending upon the area being examined.
- The X-ray machine emits a controlled beam of radiation
- Images are captured on a digital detector
- The procedure is completed within a few minutes
- Completely painless
- No recovery time required
Common clinical uses of Digital X-Ray
Appointment, Duration & Waiting Time
- Appointment: Often not required (walk-in available)
- Waiting Time: Minimal (5–15 minutes)
- Procedure Time: 2–10 minutes
Reporting & Turnaround Time
- Images are reviewed by qualified radiologists
- Report Delivery:
- Routine cases: Same day
- Urgent cases: Within a few minutes
Quick and reliable reporting for faster treatment decisions
X-Ray Cost
X-ray is one of the most affordable diagnostic tests.
Prices vary depending on the body part
Safety Considerations
- Uses low-dose radiation, considered safe for most patients
- Avoid unnecessary exposure, especially during pregnancy
- Always performed under trained supervision
